Kwikset and UniKey are set to update their home entry systems, which have remained largely unchanged since they were first invented more than a hundred years ago. Using a Bluetooth daughter card in the lock mechanism, a couple Bluetooth antennas and a clever app this lock opens by simply touching a finger to the outside of the housing when you approach the door.
At its simplest, the companies' Këvo system isn't too unlike a keyless car entry system, though it takes advantage of your iPhone's Bluetooth LE -- Android and BB10 versions will arrive as soon as those platform's stacks are sorted -- or the included keyfob for the proximity technology. Security is handled through the phone or desktop app enabling you to share keys with your family as administrative users, normal users, one-off entry or even scheduled access. For those concerned about leaving your phone too near the door and thereby allowing anybody access, the system actually uses two antennas, one on the inside and one out. So should you stand behind the closed door the system won't trigger access to those outside. Battery life for the four AAs is rated for a year, and you've no need to worry about being surprised by an outage, either: the system will notify you well in advance using the lock's eight RGB LEDs or through the app. Pricing will be somewhere in the $199 range when it hits the shops, though sadly we don't have an exact date to share. We're pretty stoked to get a chance to check this system out for ourselves but until that time, check out the quick video of it in action below.

LG waterproof optimus GJ

As expected, today LG has officially introduced its first high-end waterproof smartphone, called Optimus GJ.
The GJ is essentially a waterproofed Optimus G, as its model number suggests (the Optimus G is the E975, while the GJ is the E975W).
Unveiled in Taiwan, the new handset is slightly larger and thicker than original Optimus G (131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm vs. 136.9 x 68.9 x 9.9 mm). Its IPX7 certification means it can stay underwater – up to 1m – for up to 30 minutes. Other features: 4.7 inch IPS HD display, Bluetooth 4.0, 13MP rear camera, quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, MicroSD card slot, and a 2,280 mAh battery.
According to ePrice, The LG Optimus GJ will be available in Taiwan starting June, retailing at $17,990 TWD (about $600). It has two color versions: all black, and black / red. For the moment we don’t know if LG is planning to launch the handset in other markets.

Samsung is also getting ready to introduce a waterproof version of its Galaxy S4 flagship. Called Galaxy S4 Active, this could be announced in the coming weeks.
All in all, it looks like Sony has started a trend with its Xperia Z – which is the world’s first widely-available high-end Android smartphone.

Yesterday, EasilyDo launched their Smart Assistant onto the Google Play Store. It’s completely free and does some pretty cool things. It will tell you when to leave for an appointment, so that you’ll arrive on time, it will also monitor for important emails, and friends news. Additionally it will warn you about bad weather, tracks your packages, files receipts, and so much more.

So basically, it’s Google Now. But it seems to do quite a bit more than Google Now does. It will connect to Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Exchange, IMAP, Evernote, LinkedIn, and Twitter. It also keeps your data protected at all times. Which is always a huge plus, right?

EasilyDo also has support connected right inside the App. If you go to Account and then tap on Support, you can send them an email very easily and quickly. No pun intended. EasilyDo has an average rating of 4.6 on the Google Play Store, so don’t just take our word for it, other users are liking EasilyDo. Even if it does do a lot of the same things that Google Now does. But remember Google Now isn’t available for all versions of Android. EasilyDo does require Android 4.0 or higher.

The app weighs in at about 8.9 megabytes. So it’s not a huge app, compared to Google Now which has always been around 50 megabytes in size. There are some exclusive features for their Android app over iOS which are the Widget. Of course, iOS doesn’t support widgets, at least not yet. It also has Next Calendar Events list. Improving on their prior versions of the app. It will display all calendar events for the next 7 days. And it looks really nice.

samsung secretly working on fingerprint protection

Samsung is a brand that prides itself on bringing innovative technology to its devices, so it should come as no surprise that it is bringing fingerprint technology to its devices. The gang at SamMobile got a tip from a Sammy insider showcasing some Galaxy S III firmware from the SecSettings .apk file. Within the file is clearly the early components of some sort of fingerprint tracking system. When Samsung plans on releasing its newfound technology remains to be seen, but there will be no doubt it’ll certainly generate excitement and buzz in the meantime.

Nokia lumia 920 menu and software reviews

One of the first smartphones to ship with Windows Phone 8 platform out of the box, Nokia Lumia 920 offers a bunch of improvement over the older WP7.5 devices. Although Windows Phone 8 looks the same on all smartphones, Nokia offers some additional features that you cannot find in HTC phones for example.

The highly praised Modern UI, previously known as Metro UI, gives the phone a clean, stylish look. However, customization options are pretty limited and only go one way – down. The Modern UI is made of live tiles that can be resized and arranged as you see fit.

  

It acts as a home screen where users can pin contacts, apps, services, webpages and more. All that you add on this home screen is vertically arranged, so you will have to scroll down to find what you need.

The main menu is only a swipe away from the home screen. A swipe to the left will let you access the phone’s main menu and all the apps and services that come with the phone. Design-wise, the main menu follows the Modern UI’s vertical layout pattern.

The bad news is that you don’t have a place where you can check all notifications from the apps that you have installed on the phone. Moreover, there are no quick toggles to help you enable/disable certain features such as GPS, Wi-Fi and Mobile data.

   

Although the smartphone’s lockscreen allows you to see notifications from five apps, there’s no way that you can find out you’ve missed a call or that you have an email, unless you unlock the phone.

Nokia Lumia 920 does not have a notification LED of any other feature that can be used instead to alert users they have received a message or a call.

On the positive side, Windows Phone 8 knows multitasking, though it is not “true” multitasking. The operating system can suspend an app previously used and it can resume it every time you want to go back to it.

   

It also knows when an application needs to run in the background or it only requires to be suspended. This feature depends on developers, who can create their apps to use one of the two multitasking modes available within Windows Phone 8 platform.

The bad news is that you won’t be able to “kill” an application within the task manager. In order to close an application that runs in the background or is suspended, users will have to press and hold the Back key in order to bring up the task manager, choose the app they wish to terminate and then click the Back key again.

   

This method is pretty awkward and may require users to click more than one time on the Back key in order to close an application, especially if you wish to “kill” the Internet browser.

Nokia Lumia 920 provides access to a ton of features, including Alarms, Calculator, Calendar, Photo Beamer, Store and Transfer my Data. The latter allows you to move all your contacts from your older phone to the Lumia 920. Nokia also states that some older phones will also let you transfer pictures and messages via Bluetooth, but this is not guaranteed.

   

Furthermore, the smartphone comes with Nokia’s full suite of HERE services and apps, including City Lens, Drive+ and Maps. Nokia Music, Nokia Care and Nokia Xpress are included as well.

More importantly, Nokia Lumia 920 provides users with free access to Office document viewing and editing. It comes with full SkyDrive integration, so all documents on the phone will always be synched with the ones on the computer.

The bad news is that Lumia 920 does not feature a file manager, so users won’t be able to attach all types of files to their emails.

   

The Windows Phone Store is very well organized, so users will be able to easily find what they’re looking for. Although the number of applications and games is nowhere near Google Play and App Store’s, Microsoft’s Windows Phone Store becomes larger and larger by the day.

   

Xbox Live is another entertainment hub that allows users to check their friends’ achievements and avatars. Keep in mind that not all games available for download via Windows Phone Store support this feature.

   

Last but not least, Microsoft and Nokia thought it would be wise to add a new parental-related feature called Kids corner, which allows parents to share apps, music, videos and games with their children.
